We all want to travel with WiFi, but when we leave our country we find that we do not have the Internet connection we need, either to contact our relatives, to be able to search for information that allows us to move in the new country of destination or simply to use social networks.
We need to look for sites that have free WiFi or pay for data roaming and in this case it is a big expense for our trip.
We tried several options to have Internet while traveling, but we needed a good connection to be able to go a little bit on the fly and to be able to book or look for information of the sites to visit.
We found in MIOWIFI the best option to have Internet in our trips and we want to share it with you so you can save money and time to look for more options.
What is a MiFi?
A MiFi is a router that acts as a mobile WiFi hotspot.
In other words, a MiFi device is a WiFi device that uses a SIM card to provide WiFi to other devices that have a wireless connection such as laptops, smartphones, tablets, laptops, cameras, etc. You can also connect to the Internet via USB to a computer.
If you want to save money while traveling and you need internet connection almost every day for you and, above all, for more people, MIOWIFI is the solution.
Sure you have heard of these situations: wasting time looking for free WiFi in bus stations, subways or airports, going to cafes or looking for the McDonalds or Starbucks in the city, or waiting several minutes for the web page you want to open to load because the hostel’s WiFi is super slow.
Several terminals or users can be connected to this device, up to 10 can be using this device at the same time on a MIOWIFI. In other words, the MiFi is a kind of free router that can be used for PCs and other devices.
The MIOWIFI can be used for any country in the world, you don’t have to change it if you change your country.
To get Internet in the country you are traveling to, all you have to do is turn on your MiFi with your MIOWIFI chip and you will have Internet regardless of the country you are in.
What is NOT a MiFi?
As well as knowing what it is, it is important that you know what is not MiFi:
- It’s not a WiFi-stealing device: unless you steal someone’s SIM card (don’t!), you’re not stealing anyone’s WiFi with MiFi.
- It is not a device to amplify WiFi signal from other sources: the MiFi is not a device to be in a square with free WiFi and amplify the signal to receive more quality. Without a SIM, it is useless.
Consider both, and you won’t be buying what isn’t. If you want to steal WiFi or amplify the WiFi signal there are other options, which we won’t discuss in this post because they are not relevant.
Types of Mifi
The portable MiFi (of which we speak in this post), are designed to carry your own mobile WiFi network as our Huawei E5573.
The market variety of MiFi devices that work with SIM cards is very wide in terms of design.
The dimensions are small, so it’s perfect for travelling as it fits in your pocket and doesn’t weigh anything. But apart from the design, what you need to know to start looking for your MiFI is what you will need it for and what mobile network you have available where you are going to travel.
Types of networks
If you are a bit lost in this networking thing we will briefly describe the possible options and what they are for. There are 2G, 3G and recently 4G networks.
The 2G and 3G networks are very widespread and we find them covering many areas both populated and more remote where there is not so much civilization, so if we are going to move through all kinds of areas these will be the networks that we can use.
The 4G networks are currently very focused on capitals, cities and urban centers, so you will do very well if you are going to be moving through these places. Their connection speed is faster but at the same time the data consumption of your tariff is also faster.
Please note that to connect to a 4G network, you must be in a 4G coverage zone, have a 4G MiFi and a 4G SIM. Do you understand 4G?
As a tip, we believe that in general the MiFi option with both 2G and 3G connections will be a better option, first because they are cheaper and second because they cover more geographical area and fewer requirements to be able to use it.
