Roaming: tips to save when travelling abroad

Roaming: tips to save when travelling abroad

I’m sure you already have your vacation itinerary for this summer. Destination, transfers, accommodation, excursions, luggage… but do you have any plans on how you are going to connect to the Internet? If you travel abroad and you are going to use your cell phone or any other device, the first term you should know is Roaming and how you can save when you travel abroad.

What is Roaming?

Roaming is the surcharge applied by the phone companies to calls made with your phone abroad. Telecommunications companies have agreements with operators in other countries to use their network when their customers travel.

The companies usually set these rates according to the geographical area. Be careful, follow this advice to save when you travel abroad and avoid shocks.

MIOWIFI Connecting Everywhere

The best option to avoid the extra cost of roaming on your phone bill is to use a portable 4G/Wifi router. This way you can connect all wifi devices to the same router and pay an unlimited internet flat rate per day. Very useful if you want to be clear about how much you have spent while you are on the road and to control your “communications”.

With the MIOWIFI portable router you can connect up to 5 devices simultaneously on your trips, to pay for a single connection and have all devices connected.

And back home?

If you’re one of the cautious ones who have turned off data roaming so as not to increase your spending, remember that you’ll have to turn it back on if you want to access your data rate in your home country.

The tips in this post will be very useful if you travel often. Although it had been announced that by the end of 2015 roaming charges would disappear in the European Union, pressure from countries has led to a moratorium being discussed until the summer of 2017. A decision that many citizens do not understand. If we live in a single market, with free movement of citizens, how can we understand this extra cost of using a mobile phone when we change countries within the EU?

Back home, you can once again enjoy the benefits of a flat rate that combines mobile, fixed and internet billing. Now you can freely share all the photos and videos of your trip with your friends. Will they miss your MIOWIFI?
